Summary:
The planet is facing a twin water crisis – human and ecological. Canada is not exempt from this crisis despite our “myth of abundance” that has kept us from facing our own situation. Maude will talk about the need to “think blue” and look at the climate crisis from a water perspective. She will share some hard facts but will also share what she calls “wise hope” – the knowledge that armed with the facts, we can and must take meaningful action.
Biography:
Maude Barlow is a Canadian activist and author. She has authored many reports and 20 books. She chairs the board of Washington-based Food and Water Watch, is the founder of the Blue Planet Project and co-founded the Council of Canadians. She is the recipient of seventeen honorary doctorates as well as many awards, including the 2005 Right Livelihood Award (known as the “Alternative Nobel”) In 2008/2009, she served as Senior Advisor on Water to the 63rd President of the UN General Assembly and was a leader in the campaign to have water recognized as a human right by the UN. She is the creator of the Blue Communities project. There are 25 million people living in official Blue Community towns and cities around the world.
