“The mother of disruption – automobiles in Canada in the 20th Century” An illustrated history of the growth of the automobile in Canada, with an emphasis on the period to 1930, and what the story can teach us about our current predicament.
BIO:
Ralph has been working in the area of sustainable energy futures since the late 1970’s when he had a leadership role in Canada’s long range study of the potential for conservation and renewable energy. Years later he produced a low carbon scenario analysis for Canada, possibly the first such study in the world. He is the inventor of strategic planning software for local government climate mitigation that was widely deployed throughout the world. In addition to his consulting practice, he served as a senior executive of two publicly traded management consulting firms and is currently research director of Corporate Knights, a research and publishing organization that produces rankings and financial product ratings based on corporate sustainability performance. He is working on a low carbon transition strategy for Nova Scotia, a scenario and policy approach for the mass retrofit of Canadian buildings, and various modeling and analytical projects related to the low carbon transition. He lives in his home town of Cobourg, Ontario with his partner Judy Smith has two young grandsons, and gardens.
