The central message of residential schools was and is devastating: Indigenous culture was of no value and it needed to be erased in Canada, from coast to coast to coast. The impact of the schools on the Indigenous peoples will continue to be felt for years in education, health care, justice, and individual and community development. But even the horrors of residential schools do not tell the whole story.
