Summary:
On October 12th, 2026, the NEB (National Emergency Briefing) held its first NEB-LIVE event with Professors Paul Behrens, Hayley Fowler, and Mike Berners-Lee discussing the risks El Niño could pose for the UK. This is the first in an ongoing series of webinars where we give you access to the latest science on the climate and nature crisis from trusted experts.
What could the next El Niño mean for the UK, and how prepared are we for the risks?
In the first episode of NEB-LIVE, Professors Paul Behrens, Hayley Fowler and Mike Berners-Lee explore the science behind El Niño, its potential implications for the UK, and what it could mean in a rapidly changing climate.
NEB-LIVE is a new series from the National Emergency Briefing, bringing leading scientists and experts directly to the public to explore the latest evidence on the climate and nature crises, the risks we face and what we can do about them.
Our aim is simple: to make the science accessible, understandable and impossible to ignore.
Background:
The National Energy Briefing (NEB) is a UK initiative that has been massively successful and which we hope to learn from and perhaps even emulate in Canada.
As part of this campaign, a webinar took place on 12 October focusing on El Niño. Since registrations reached Zoom’s limit of 10,000 people, this was also live-streamed on YouTube. This post showcases a recording of this event.
