Summary:
Since 2016, the National Research Council in collaboration with Infrastructure Canada has been working to integrate climate change considerations into codes, standards and guidance to ensure Canada’s buildings and infrastructure are resilient to climate change and extreme events. This presentation will provide an overview of completed resources that are now available to inform Canada’s construction sector, including the new “design value explorer” and national guidance on wildland urban interface design, flooding, and durability. The presentation will also provide insight into the progress within national codes including the National Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, and will inform on current and planned research to support Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy.
