Summary:
Derek has been preparing a new edition of his book, “A leap to an Ecological Economy.” He will run through some of the items in the chapter on recommendations, with a view to helping the Cacor Board to choose one or more items where a Cacor team might make a significant contribution to addressing climate change and/or making our economy sustainable. He hopes to provoke the first developments of such ideas from his audience.
Biography:
Derek Paul is a retired physicist, turned generalist. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Cambridge University doing research in atomic physics for a decade at the Royal Military College of Canada. He obtained a doctorate from Queens University in 1958. He has been a professor at the University of Toronto, participated in the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, co-founded Science for Peace (1981- ), is a member of the International Society for Quality of Life Studies, and co-founded the Global Issues Project. He was motivated to write this book because of the urgent need to address the huge threat of climate change, reduce ecological footprint and increase biocapacity everywhere. He is a member of physical societies, the International Society for Ecological Economics, Coalition Climate Montreal, the Canadian Association of the Club of Rome, and the Rassemblement des universitaires. He lives in Montreal.
