Summary:
The transition to green energy will require large quantities of materials to manufacture the equipment needed for low-carbon technologies. Some essential resources—including copper, lithium, and cobalt—are limited because they are relatively scarce or difficult to extract from the Earth’s crust. This raises an important question: Are sufficient materials available to complete the energy transition? This webinar will examine these constraints and explore the many options available to address potential shortages and keep the transition moving forward.
Biography:
Raymond Leury has a lifelong curiosity about science and technology, particularly their potential both to create environmental challenges and to help solve them. After completing undergraduate studies in science and business, followed by an MBA, he built a long career in information technology. As a consultant, he specialized in solving complex problems and overcoming barriers to successful project delivery.
As an advocate for transportation electrification and President of the Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa (EVCO), Raymond draws on the skills developed throughout his career to help overcome barriers to adopting cleaner technologies, including electric vehicles. He hopes to apply these same problem-solving skills to help others understand that practical solutions to climate change are already available. The future is bright, but we must act now to accelerate the transition to greener technologies.
