Summary:
Theoretical and experimental research on the origins of life focus on how life evolved. A second order question currently being explored is: Why is there life? Exploring the mechanisms creating animate out of inanimate matter helps to advance our understanding of why there is life by elucidating the driving force for advancing complexity in the universe. Through this approach, incite is gained into life’s apparent teleonomy and unique characteristics. This is a synthetic work employing what is already known about the physical universe to propose a plausible account of why there is life.
