Subject: Re-Canada seeks to acquire long-range strike system widely used in Ukraine war – The Globe and Mail, August 14, 2026

Could recognition of the drone’s alarming potential be the final stake in the heart of carbon fuels as the “go to” energy source? The deep penetration strikes by Ukraine’s drones against Russian oil refineries flags the vulnerability of centralized energy assets.
While Canada augments its defence force capabilities with long-range drone assets, we need to take measures to survive their use against us. Disbursing our energy assets will render us far less vulnerable and more resilient to a range of threats including climate induced storms, cyber-attacks as well as all manner of kinetic energy weapons, including those carried by drones.
This can be achieved by building and networking widely distributed solar, wind and geothermal electricity production with battery storage. These technologies already exist and there’s a bonus, too. Besides greatly enhancing Canada’s energy security, these distributed electric energy sources are cleaner and becoming considerably cheaper than fossil fuel electricity generation.
