Solutions to the problem of global warming lie outside the energy box: while it is important to “get the prices right”, many of the decisions and behaviours that determine the level and pattern of energy use in society are decisions and behaviours that are not
themselves sensitive to energy prices or energy policies; urban planning, to take just one example, or the advancement of information technologies. The achievement of sustainable, low carbon futures will require the infusion of ecological sensitivity in everything we do: the way we think, the way we design, and the way we invest.
