It is clear that the games have had a range of social and environmental impacts as well as both positive and negative economic ones. While many venues have benefited from new facilities and amenities, others have not.  Some have relics from past events while others remain to be paid for.  As noted in the article, venues have often promised much but there have been a limited number of winners in the sustainability stakes.  While the environmental, social and economic legacy of Rio remains to be documented, all people  have to keep rooting to raise the bar for all such events as a global contribution to the welfare of all.
