In 1993, CACOR member Digby McLaren pointed out that ever-increasing numbers of human and our ever-increasing consumption of resources, the carrying capacity of Earth had long been exceeded and the sustainability of our civilizations was in doubt.
Dr. McLaren delved into population projections and differential population growth rates in various regions. He explored technological optimism and technological skepticism, noting the vast difference in the two world views. He went to discuss economic models and, ultimately, the moral dilemmas we face with respect to our potential self-destruction.
[The fundamental description of the problem remains unchanged in 2022, and we have yet to change our trajectory in terms of numbers and resource use. Ed.]
