1997 Series 1 Number 22 Page 14
The Club of Rome–Agenda for the End of the Century.
This was a brief (1 page) excerpt from Aurelio Peccei’s last paper, on which he was working at the time of his death on 14 March 1984. In 1997, it was still relevant.
[Indeed, in 2023, it is still relevant. Ed.]
Aurelio concluded that matters might become cataclysmic if we are unprepared for the changes that were imminent or extremely regarding if we face up to the challenges of a novel phase in the human venture.
He foresaw:
- Further population growth
- Deteriorating relations between humans and our natural environment
- Larger and increasingly complex society requiring new ways of managing ourselves
- New technologies increasing our power but also our deleterious impacts
- Perhaps better ability to control our violence
[That last point remains to be seen. Ed.]
