The newest version of the leading home battery system now offers more power and is currently open for ordering.
After much anticipation, the renowned Tesla Powerwall has unveiled its latest model, the Tesla Powerwall 3. The Powerwall 3 is now accessible in the continental US and will soon be available in Puerto Rico and Hawaii.
Tesla emphasizes that the Powerwall 3 is intended to hasten the shift to sustainable energy. While both versions aim for easy installation and compatibility with solar panels, the Powerwall 3 stands out with its enhanced power capacity. This newer model can power larger appliances compared to its predecessor, potentially requiring fewer batteries for your home backup needs. Its increased power capacity and ability for whole-home battery storage contribute to better grid reliability during peak demand periods, such as hot summer days.
On the other hand, the Powerwall 2 is more suitable for partial backup or light commercial usage. To cover your entire home’s energy needs with the Powerwall 2, you might need multiple units.
Both systems effectively promote renewable energy consumption and help reduce carbon emissions when combined with solar panels. In certain states like California, the utility rates may encourage battery adoption. Even without solar panels, a battery backup can keep your home powered during outages and lower energy costs.
The cost of a Tesla Powerwall 3 starts at $8,400 if ordered directly from Tesla’s website, excluding taxes and installation fees. Tax rates vary by location, and installation costs depend on the installer.
Previously, Tesla provided a detailed cost breakdown, but now you only receive the base battery price until you provide more personal information. Waiting for a company to contact you with pricing is not ideal, but it’s common in the industry. After completing those steps, I received an email notification within a minute that a Tesla Certified Installer would reach out with pricing details and guidance on finalizing the Powerwall order. However, immediate contact from an installer is not guaranteed.
You can take advantage of the 30% federal solar tax credit to reduce the cost of a Tesla Powerwall 3 to $5,880 per unit. Additional state rebates or incentives may further lower the overall cost.
Tesla offers a discount if you purchase multiple Powerwall units, with a maximum of four units that can be connected together.
