By Dr. Edward Manning, past Chair CACOR. Preparations for the Club of Rome Climate Change conference 2017.
One of the 6 sessions in Vienna, in November 2017, is focused on the specific topic of carbon sequestration. No-one suggests that it is the only solution. It is mainly spurred by interest in seagrass and in other land use and reforestation solutions although others have suggested a number of not impossible tech fixes. My main concern is that, even where it is possible to identify practical solutions in mitigation or large scale technical measures we do not have the institutions or vehicles to deliver these.
As we clearly defined in our sessions (which I refer to in my 4 minute presentation – the time allowed respondents in each session) adaptation is much easier to get buy in because the beneficiaries are often the ones who must invest.
As we all know the answer of what to do is “all of the above “ but none of the other simultaneous sessions are focused on anything except tweaks to the banking system or similar.
The results of this conference will be the subject for the next CACOR luncheon. The Events posting on the site home page provides details.
