With climate change taking the front seat almost everywhere in the news today, it comes as no surprise that everyone has heard about it. Even so, many are not aware of how it can affect them personally, and the very significant role trees have in attenuating the effects of climate change.
This film ‘nails it’ so everyone can understand.
CACOR sponsored a special preview showing of Call of the Forest – The Forgotten Wisdom of Trees at the MAYFAIR Theatre on Thursday, April 14, 2016, to an over capacity crowd. Diana Beresford-Kroeger, Ottawa area scientist, author and environmentalist, was present at this special screening of her film, at the end of which, she responded to questions from a very interested and enthusiastic audience.
Call of the Forest – The Forgotten Wisdom of Trees brings viewers to some of the Earth’s last, great forests, (Japan, Ireland, Germany, the United States and Canada) with special homage given to the Boreal Forests of the North. We are specifically asked to pay attention to the Alberta, Canada, where the Tar Sands project has ultimately decimated every single form of life, from the great trees, known as the Canopy, and everything below it, including the fungi and other life forms that lived in the soil.
Death of the land means death to everything depending upon it, from the most mundane little bug, to man himself. The land decimated by the Tar Sands project, a swath as large as Ireland, is DEAD, never to be revived!
In the film, we learn about the tree as neighbour, nurturer and provider of food and medicine. Unique in its many benefits and its immense role in our ecosystem, we learn that without trees, the earth cannot survive, so intricately tied are they to every aspect of life itself, not the least of which is carbon sequestering, the simple cost-effective and all natural way to fight climate change.
Do you know about trees? As I was viewing this film, it slowly dawned on me that I did not have the whole picture; worse, I had not been aware that my perception was lacking. This film opened my eyes to the immense role of trees as absolutely essential to life, and the great responsibility they bear in maintaining the earth so it is livable for all beings.
Call of the Forest – The Forgotten Wisdom of Trees is an urgent ‘call to action’ as ‘no other organism or invention can do what the tree does’. It achieves its goal: it motivates, it inspires.
As for me, I can never look at trees in the same way again! The simple fact is: trees can live without man, but man cannot live without trees. Think about that.
