Rocky Mountain Institute has issued a new report which looks at how grid-integrated efficient buildings can help both the US government and utilities to reduce energy and operational costs.
The report, Value Potential for Grid-Interactive Efficient Buildings in the GSA Portfolio: A Cost-Benefit Analysis, states that grid-integrated efficient buildings can unlock up to $50 million in annual energy savings for the US General Services Administration.
Up to $70 million can be saved by utilities through reductions in energy generation, transmission and distribution costs.
In addition, the solution can help the US achieve its energy decarbonisation goals as well as enhance the resiliency of grid networks.
The report recommends:
- An increase in investments in grid-integrated efficient building measures
- Accelerating grid-integrated building pilots
- Increase industry awareness of grid-integrated efficient buildings
