The current debate on population growth often deals with the question of whether a population decline will reduce emissions and save humankind (and the ecosystem as well) from the grim reality of global warming. It is grim because Earth’s atmosphere has a “memory” of the past; it remembers the accumulated emissions. So, we don’t just need to stop emitting greenhouse gases, we should take steps to reabsorb the already emitted amounts.
