This was the second lecture by Dr. Alastair M. Taylor, Professor Emeritus at Queens U, in March 1996, at U Guelph. This lecture was part of a course on Global Transformation: The Dawn of a New Millenium.
The lecture reviewed the development of society: its innovations, environmental control, population growth, complexification, aesthetic norms, and shifts in worldviews. One conclusion is that society is in yet another seismic quantum shift. A massive destabilization of our ecosystems is underway. We’ve done little to stop it. If we continue to fail in addressing the problems we’re causing, we will experience a collapse of our economy and our population. In our future activities, we need to address the imbalance that we’ve created in our society between the North and the South. Globalization will greatly change the relationships between nation states.
Dr. Taylor was a co-author of the fifth report to the Club of Rome, which concerned Goals for Mankind.
