Summary:

John makes the foundational claim that human civilization and existential identity are structured around a largely unremarked system of terror and mass violence, and that this system (human supremacism or speciesism), has been weaponized and amplified by the capitalist world system.  As a direct consequence of these entwined systems, the Earth’s ecology is collapsing.

Biography:

Dr. John Sanbonmatsu is Professor of Philosophy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts (USA), where he teaches courses in ethics, politics, and existentialism, among other topics.  He is the author of The Omnivore’s Deception (New York University Press) and The Postmodern Prince: Critical Theory, Left Strategy, and the Making of a New Political Subject (Monthly Review Press).  He also edited the anthology Critical Theory and Animal Liberation (Bloomsbury).  His opinion essays have appeared in Christian Science Monitor, CounterPunch, Huffington Post, and St. Louis Post-Dispatch, among other places.
