Subject: GDP as a Proxy for Ecological Footprint
Time: 14 Feb 2024 13:30 Eastern Standard Time (US and Canada)
Summary:
GDP is recognized far and wide as a poor indicator of social wellbeing, even among conventional economists. Some, therefore, would dismiss GDP altogether as a “meaningless” indicator. However, GDP is an excellent measure of the size of the economy and, therefore, environmental impact. Statistically, GDP is a proxy for ecological footprint, and should be used to “weigh” the ever-bloating economic patient.
