Summary:
Eco-decency is about finding balance in treating both each other and the earth’s systems with the respect they deserve, recognizing the importance of dignity in our interactions with people and the planet. Our ecosystems have developed on this third rock from the sun over billions of years of evolution. Understanding the complexity and fragility of these life-supporting systems should stop us from assuming they can endlessly withstand our harmful extractions. We need to identify where short-term actions that seem to benefit human life actually create long-term unsustainable problems. We can’t abuse human life, nor can we allow growth and human advancement to destroy the other life forms we depend on. This is a challenging but essential journey, one we must define and protect through new stories of genuine sustainability.
