Global OTEC’s proprietary self-contained skid enables a lower cost, modular approach to generating electricity from OTEC with increments of up to 500 kW of gross installed capacity.

The OTEC Power Module® contains all the necessary safety and control systems required for local and remote operations. With a sufficient supply of warm and cold water, the systems can be combined to increase power output, providing a scalable renewable energy source in tropical waters.
Global OTEC | Clean energy from the ocean
Global OTEC was founded to provide clean, reliable and affordable energy from the ocean to power a diverse range of offshore applications and even entire countries, particularly tropical island nations. The company’s technology builds on decades of process expertise and OTEC demonstrations validated through international programmes.
Global OTEC has designed the first floating commercial OTEC system to transform how the world is powered and is also leading the EU-funded project PLOTEC. In parallel, the company is working with ExxonMobil, BP and Petrobras through the DeepStar Consortium—a global offshore research programme led by 11 major operators, to assess how OTEC can decarbonise deepwater oil and gas operations.
Advantages are:
- continuous (invariant and uninterruptible) energy production operations (24/7/365)
- reliable and resilient
- No land requirement
- good radar reflection (aircraft, ships, satellite) for navigation aids
- remote location suitable (islands and coastal communities, oil drilling rigs, offshore industries)
- Cold water for port infrastructure cooling
- manufacture of green hydrogen and methane
- robust and severe weather tolerant
- low-cost power
- zero carbon emissions with reliable, clean baseload power.
