3. Michigan attorney general sues oil industry over allegations of collusion against electric vehicles and renewable energy — POLITICO
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel launched two federal and one state antitrust lawsuit against BP, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, and the American Petroleum Institute last week, arguing that they acted as a “cartel” to slow EV and renewable energy development.
The suit alleges the companies have invested in and then “abandoned” renewables, undercut rival tech through patent litigation, hid the true costs of fossil fuels, promoted misinformation, and used hackers to suppress investigations.
The lawsuit argues that EVs would be a common sight in every neighborhood if it weren’t for oil companies’ efforts. Fossil fuels would still be used, but they would no longer be the default.
