Community solar and storage in California could be a game-changer for clean energy and affordable housing. A coalition is urging regulators to implement the Net Value Billing Tariff (NVBT) to revamp the state’s community solar market and unlock its potential. With the NVBT, California could become a leader in community solar, enabling the development of 8 GW of solar paired with batteries. This expansion would bring cheaper and cleaner power to households that cannot install rooftop solar, including low-income households and renters. The NVBT is different from previous programs as it does not have capacity caps and requires battery installation to help balance the grid.
