Conflicts: An Exploratory View of the Balkans.
CACOR member N. Németh penned this long (6 pages) and detailed examination of the wars in the Balkans. He explained that the wars were, in large measure, the result of the global problematique—too many people competing for resources and living space, though the pursuit of power was the proximate cuase. His aim here was to expose the facts around the conflicts, not to assign blame.
He began by examining the region under the Ottoman Empire. Since that time, there has been unending assassination, invasion, ethnic cleansing, reprisal, suffering, and death. If anything, it was worsened by the Treaty of Versailles at the end of The Great War. He felt that, at the time [and ever since] humanity faced a challenge to change the practices that had brought so much strife to the Balkans and elsewhere. [Sadly, we appear to have failed. Ed.]
