When I grew up and fell in love
I asked my lover, “What lies ahead?
Will we have rainbows day after day?”
Guess what my lover said
Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother, “What will I be?
Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?”
I tell them, “Wait and see.”
Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
Que sera, sera
My Uncle loved that song. I am not so sure. It is beautiful, like a gorgeous sunrise, but the implications in terms of being passive… well, I am not so sure I love that. And yet… it is true that there is much of life we can do nothing about… but perhaps the song is saying that this allows us to focus on the bits where we can make difference?
I don’t know what to write about today. Part of me sees all the good things happening:
Installing solar is almost 90% cheaper than in 2010
Cheap solar power is helping the global south skip fossil fuels and focus on renewables
The war in Iran has accelerated the growth of renewables
Solar power is the EU’s single largest source of electricity
Australia just passed legislation creating a large national part to protect koalas and greater gliders
Fulton is excitedly talking about Redd Fish’s work on an Indigenous-led kelp reforestation project to restore marine habitat for juvenile Pacific salmon in Clayoquot Sound.
Part of me sees the normal stupid of human behaviour which is the just our normal, only now on a massively, global destructive scale:
Massive chemical plant fire triggers mass evacuations in Mexico
The most devastating effects of El Niño include extreme weather patterns such as droughts, floods, and heatwaves, leading to widespread agricultural losses, food insecurity, displacement, and increases in disease outbreaks, resulting in significant socioeconomic disruption and environmental damage globally.
A new World Happiness Report says Canada has a higher percentage of couples without children than any other country in the developed world. [1]
So which is it? Is there hope or despair? Both of course. But the good news is this – you get to choose which you become part of. You see, since everything in life is constantly in flux, it is also being created anew every day and luck you – you are part of that creation – but only if you so choose.
So what can you do today? Dream and Do. Find the cup half full, and fill it. Find a friend and be a friend. Get up every morning and know that you matter and that you can make a difference. Yes, it may be but a drop, but drop by drop the mountain is eroded. And while you do that look at every penny you spend and know that where you money goes, so goes the world.
In cities vast where concrete dreams arise,
Rivers of light like silken threads entwine,
Through alleyways where ancient shadows lie,
And whisper secrets of a grand design.
The future calls with voices soft yet bright,
As neon streams entwine with silver air,
Each glimmer tells of hope, a boundless flight,
In harmony with stars, beyond compare.
A world reborn where darkness dares not creep,
Where every heart beats to a vibrant song,
And in this flow, our aspirations leap,
Uniting souls where they have longed to belong.
So let us dance upon this radiant stream,
And shape tomorrow with our shared dream
