We are amid a global climate crisis brought on by humanity exceeding the earth’s sustainable atmospheric and biospheric capacity – compelling, profound action to achieve a sustainable future. Success will depend on societal, industrial, and governmental collaboration and many other interconnected factors. That includes the application of technology – not the least of which is leveraging digitalization of the physical world through the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This session overviews IoT and AI, then delves into their various positive applications to stem further advancement and the effects of climate change. It also covers some challenges of realizing IoT and AI adoption and cautions against their potential pitfalls.
Biography:
Walter is the CEO of Praxiem where he consults in market research, commercialization, and business development in the ICT sector. He is a board member at AIoT Canada and a co-chair of their National Strategy Council (NSC), developing the national AIoT (Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things) strategy. As founder at iotNorth, he hosts the ThingsHappen podcast and the ThingkFest events to foster Canada’s Internet of Things conversation and growth. Some recent work includes reports on national and regional Internet of Things ecosystems to inform exports and Foreign Direct Investment attraction efforts.
Walter has over thirty years of extensive and diverse experience in ICT product management, hands-on software and hardware research and development, commercial and account management, standards development, and technology acceleration at several global corporations and a provincial center of excellence.
Walter is a proponent of physical digitalization as a lever for economic growth and social good.
