SUMMARY:CACOR Live | Jay Coggins | Meeting the Climate Challenge: Cheap but not Easy | 22 Apr 2026 at 13:30 EST
DESCRIPTION:CACOR Members and Associates are invited to the following CACOR Live presentation: \nSpeaker: Jay Coggins \nSubject: Meeting the Climate Challenge: Cheap but not Easy \n Time:   22 April\, 2026 at 13:30 EST \n(This presentation will be recorded and posted on our public YouTube channel within 48 hours afterwards!)\nMembers can pick up the live connection (Zoom) information at:  Canadian Association for the Club of Rome – CACOR Live: Dr. Jay Coggins – Meeting the Climate Challenge \nNot a member yet? Click HERE to join or get more details on benefits. \n  \n \n  \n  \nSummary: \nTwenty years ago\, it was true that a rapid transition away from fossil fuels looked to be prohibitively expensive. That old perspective is no longer convincing. Renewable energy sources like wind and solar have become so cheap that the switch to clean\, carbon-free energy now makes sense from a strictly economic point of view. If we’re smart about it\, energy will be cheaper in the renewable future than it is today. The intermittency challenge (it’s not always windy or sunny) is being met by grid-scale battery storage systems that have also become much cheaper. The main challenge is not economic\, and it’s not technology either. The main challenge comes from political resistance by a fossil sector that wants to continue pumping oil and gas\, and digging coal. That’s what they do. A real political battle lies ahead\, but there is hope in the evidence that powerful economic forces are in favor of saving our climate for future generations. \nBiography: \nJay Coggins\, PhD is a Distinguished University Teaching Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota. He has taught at Montana State University and the University of Wisconsin. Professor Coggins’s research interests are primarily in environmental economics and environmental policy\, especially related to air pollution and climate. He has published his work in several leading journals\, including the Review of Energy and Environment\, the Journal of the Association of Environmental Economists\, and the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management\, where he was Associate Editor for four years. \n  \nAdministration: \n–  The CACOR Sponsor Claude Buettner \n–  Suggestions for future speakers are solicited.  Wednesdays starting on 20 May 2026 are available. \nAll future CACOR Live speakers presently scheduled: \nCACOR Live Schedule – Canadian Association for the Club of Rome \n

SUMMARY:CACOR Live | Lauren Latour | We need each other: On the importance of working in solidarity and coalition
DESCRIPTION:CACOR Members and Associates are invited to the following CACOR Live presentation: \nSpeaker: Lauren Latour \nSubject: We need each other: On the importance of working in solidarity and coalition \nTime: 29 April\, 2026 13:30 Eastern Time (US and Canada) \n(This presentation will be recorded and posted on our public YouTube channel within 48 hours afterwards!)\nMembers can pick up the live connection (Zoom) information at: Canadian Association for the Club of Rome – CACOR Live: Lauren Latour – Working in solidarity and coalition \nNot a member yet? Click HERE to join or get more details on benefits. \nMeeting ID: 857 9276 4597 \nPasscode: 603965 \n \nSummary: \nThe climate movement cannot win in solitude. In 2026 with the rise of fascism knocking on our door\, the cost of living making it harder for ourselves\, our friends\, and neighbours to make ends meet\, and the digital media landscape perpetuating antisocial tendencies\, it is more difficult than ever before to organize around an issue as existential and nebulous as climate. Not only is working in concert with\, and in support of other progressive communities the ethical and moral imperative\, it is the only way to harness the power of the people in order to achieve the outcomes we so desperately need. \nBiography: \nLauren’s been with Climate Action Network Canada since 2019\, first as Climate Ambition Coordinator and now as Member Services & Movement Building Manager\, after having spent several years in grassroots climate justice organizing circles in communities across Canada. \nLauren was born and raised on the land of the Anishinaabeg\, Haudenosaunee\, Attawandaron\, and Wendat peoples\, in what is commonly known as London\, Ontario. A graduate of Environmental Studies and Political Science at Mount Allison University in Mi’kma’ki (New Brunswick) Lauren first became involved in climate justice organizing through campus fossil fuel divestment campaigning\, organizing Powershift youth convergences\, and as delegate to COP 21 and 22 with the Canadian Youth Delegation. Passionate about ensuring we transition to a carbon neutral future in a way that works for all\, Lauren takes great pride in working in service of CAN-Rac’s members\, and the climate movement. \nLinks: \nHome – Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-Rac) \nCanadian Association of the Club of Rome (CACOR) homepage https://canadiancor.com/ \nCACOR YouTube www.youtube.com/@canadianassociationforthec7885 \n  \nAdministration: \n–  The CACOR Sponsor Richard van der Jagt \n–  Please invite friends and colleagues. \n–  One brief question at a time\, please.   Others are waiting. \n–  DO NOT post these credentials on social media. \n– Suggestions for future speakers are solicited.  Wednesdays starting on 20 May 2026 are available. \nAll future CACOR Live speakers presently scheduled: \nCACOR Live Schedule – Canadian Association for the Club of Rome \n
