Dr. John Hollins had a letter to the editor published by the Ottawa Citizen on 2023 April 15.
City’s LRT system in audible distress
Thank you for reporting on the questions that Councillor Wilson Lo asked about the LRT. His questions were entirely appropriate. He asked the kind of questions that boards and committees of successful enterprises, public and private, ask.
I have ridden the LRT from Blair Road to the University of Ottawa and back. From the first ride, in both directions, I was astonished by the enormous, grinding noise of the wheels between Tremblay and Lees. It did not change during subsequent rides. I have ridden many vehicles on rails, in Europe, Asia, and Canada for decades. I have never ever before heard the kind of self-evident mechanical distress that I heard on the tight curve between Tremblay and Lees.
Enormous questions are facing the City. The sooner the City addresses them effectively, if there is an effective way, the better it will be.
