Louisiana Says Thousands Should Move From Vulnerable Coast, But Can’t Pay Them
Many current and past human actions have meant that places habitable decades ago are no longer safe. Stronger storms, changes to the paths of rivers, other actions which affect the erosion of coast and limit the ability of replacement of sediments all change the coast and its conditions. This article from NPR is a clear illustration of the effects of environmental changes on existing comunities and the difficulties in dealing with the repercussions. Proposals to put homes on floating platforms, paying residents to move away and huge expenditures to build dikes and other barriers all will require considerable investment.
